Yvonne Joyce Craig

Yvonne Joyce Craig (May 16, 1936 until August 17, 2015), was an American actress, ballet dancer and choreographer. She is best remembered for her roles in Batman's series of the 1960s on TV Batman and Marta the Orion slave girl wearing green skin in Star Trek's 1969 episode "Whom Gods Destruction". The Huffington Post referred to her as "a pioneer in female super heroes" on TV. Yvonne Craig was born and was raised in Taylorville, Illinois. In 1951 , her family moved from Illinois to Dallas. She attended W. H. Adamson High School in Dallas as well as Sunset High School. However she was not able to graduate as she didn't have "one credits for PE". Craig was found by Alexandra Danilova (a ballerina and teacher) and was accepted into the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo and became its youngest member of the corps de ballet. The training helped her in her stunt work while acting as Batgirl. In 1957, she resigned from the ballet company due to an issue about casting changes. She later moved to Los Angeles with the hope of continuing her dancing career. However, she soon found herself in film roles. One of her first television roles was in an episode of the TV series Perry Mason ("The Case of the Lazy Lover" 1958) with Neil Hamilton, who played her stepfather (later Hamilton played Police Commissioner James Gordon, Batgirl's father). Shortly afterwards, she appeared in three films, including The Young Land, The Gene Krupa Story The Gene Krupa Story, and Gidget (all 1959)--and she also appeared in the TV series Mr. Lucky as Beverly Mills in the episode "Little Miss Wow" (also 1959). Craig appeared in films with Bing Crosby (1960), and Seven Women from Hell (1961) with Cesar Romero. In 1962, she guest-starred in the television show Western Laramie in the episode "The Long Road Back".Craig starred in roles with Elvis Presley in two films that were released: It Happened at World's Fair (1963) and Kissin Cousins (1964). In the year 1966, she played in Mars Needs Women. In 1967, she played an Russian ballet dancer in In Like Flint.
